keeping up appearances

Hyacinth goes to incredible lengths in her quest for refinement. She insists that her name Bucket is pronounced bouquet. Her house is spick-and-span with everything in its proper place. Her henpecked husband, Richard, must always wear a tie and endures endless instructions as he chauffeurs her around in their immaculately kept car.

In Series Four, Hyacinth is determined to buy a cottage in the country as a weekend retreat. Needless to say, her idea of what is suitable matches neither Richard's wishes nor his wallet. Luckily, an amorous farmer makes her realise that country life is not as idyllic as she thought. But Hyacinth decides to make another attempt at finding a weekend country home - much to Richard's horror...

In Series 5, Hyacinth takes a group of senior citizens to the seaside, plans what to wear to the mayor's fancy dress ball, and looks forward to her wedding anniversary, blissfully unaware that Richard has forgotten all about it.
